“Take 5 with Bridget Green”

Bridget Green is the assistant director of the Center for Multicultural Initiatives. At CMI, she works to develop relationships with students from under represented minority groups, and connect them to different resources on campus. Bridget has been a member of the OU community for 10 years, getting her start in Executive Events before moving to CMI. While services are available to students of all backgrounds, CMI’s offices are geared to connect Hispanic, African American and Native American students to the university life, and to see them through to graduation. Bridget also works to plan and oversee events such as OU’s annual African American Celebration Month, Taste of Africa Gala, and more.


1) What do you enjoy most about working for CMI?

I really enjoy working with students. They give me such energy and joy. It feels really good when a student walks out with a smile on his/her face. Or when a student returns to share a success, I know that we are really helping. I love being able to see students grow and to see their sense of pride develop. I have watched so many succeed all the way through to graduation. When I see my students being recognized for their accomplishments, I just feel like a proud mama.

2) What resources does the Center for Multicultural Initiatives offer that you wish more people knew about?

We offer a multitude of services. Most importantly, we are a free resource and our staff is very friendly and personable, and can assist with all kinds of questions or issues. I wish more students would come in and ask for help.

3) Do you have any hobbies or special interests?

Green living, which includes being a vegan. I maintain a raw food diet, and support animal rights and recycling when I can. I also practice yoga at a center in downtown Rochester.

4) What is your favorite movie?

Oh I love superhero and action movies. Of the comic book movies so far, I like “Iron Man” the best, but my favorite superhero is Wonder Woman. I’m really getting excited for the new Wonder Woman TV series that’s being put together. I also like horror movies, and am definitely not into “chick flicks.”

5) Are you involved in any projects or organizations outside of your daily work?

I am the advisor for a number of student organizations. They are Xpressiv BTZ, a STOMP, step and dance group, White Rabbit, a student meditation organization, and the Black Student Union, who works to unite and support black student organizations.

Also, I maintain a private counseling practice and am a member of two professional organizations: the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) and the American Counseling Association (ACM).
