| In 2007, Julie Voelck became the Dean of Kresge Library. She possessed the motivation, ambition, and perseverance that was needed to expand the library’s services during a time when the Internet was revolutionizing the way people acquired knowledge. She instituted lasting policies and introduced several forward thinking initiatives—which are still flourishing—while actively working to enhance the vibrant student sought destination that exists today. One of the many projects that Dean Voelck worked diligently on was the Technology Learning Center. Through multiple partnerships this project introduced the Information Commons, e-Learning and Instructional Support, and the UTS help desk to Kresge Library. As more aspects of learning make the transition to electronic medias, the demand for technology rises. These new areas have been instrumental to position Kresge Library for future growth and development. Although Dean Voelck worked on many initiatives within the Library, she considered the Suzanne O. Frankie Café to be her crowning achievement. Having opened in October 2010, its presence in the library has not only attracted the varied palates of OU students, but has been highly successful at keeping them studying in the library longer. Dean Voelck retired from her position in November 2010, her accomplishments having left an indelible mark on Kresge Library. |

continues to grow and prosper, Provost Virinder Moudgil appointed Frank J. Lepkowski to serve as its Interim Dean. |

Interim Dean Lepkowski was attracted to OU’s Kresge Library in 1985. Over the last twenty-six years he has occupied several positions at the university, involving himself with projects in many of Kresge’s service departments. In addition to his work at Oakland University, Interim Dean Lepkowski served as a Fulbright Lecturer in Library Science at Central American University in Nicaragua from 1987-1989. As an associate professor, Lepkowski devoted his time primarily to reference, library instruction, and information literacy. His profound interest in technology led him to become one of the first faculty members to learn HTML, the first Webmaster for the library’s website, and Chair of the Information Commons Task Force. In addition to being a faculty member, Interim Dean Lepkowski has served in many roles within the Library, including Associate Dean (1999-2001 & 2007-2010) and Coordinator of Information Literacy. Interim Dean Lepkowski is both excited and honored to lead the Library through this transitional time. |
