Golden Grizzlies appealing for donations to fight hunger
Anyone who donates canned or boxed food and/or money to the Summit League Food Fight food drive on Saturday, Feb. 12, will receive two free tickets to a Detroit Pistons game.
Fans are encouraged to bring all donated items to the O'rena on Feb. 12. Pistons tickets will be distributed to participating fans at the doubleheader on that day.
By donating, fans can support OU student-athletes in the Food Fight competition between Summit League schools. OU earned the Food Fight title in 2008-09 and finished as runner-up last season.
Donors don’t have to wait until Feb. 12, however. Donations will be accepted at Oakland’s Athletics ticket office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Donation areas will be available on the O’rena concourse on game days. All donations will benefit Lighthouse of Oakland County in Pontiac.
The Summit League’s Food Fight food drive now is in its third year. In its first two years, the league’s member schools collected a combined total of more than 35,000 pounds of food.
