College Goal Sunday events to help students apply for financial aid

By Eric Reikowski, media relations assistant

Paying for college has become increasingly daunting for families, especially amid today’s challenging economic conditions. Fortunately, high school seniors and those who are already in college can get help by attending College Goal Sunday, an event where financial aid professionals will be on hand to assist students in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

College Goal Sunday events are held at various locations across the state on Sunday, Feb. 12, and are provided as a public service to help students and their families apply for aid through FAFSA. Financial aid professionals will help guide students through the process of filling out the application correctly.

“Any financial aid professional can volunteer at any location,” explained Cindy Hermsen, OU's director of Financial Aid. “In previous years, members of my staff have volunteered at locations in Macomb, Wayne, Oakland and Livingston counties.”

Before attending College Goal Sunday, students should register for a Personal Identification Number (PIN) at pin.ed.gov to serve as an electronic signature for their FAFSA account. Students must bring their PIN to the workshop, along with other materials listed here.

Applications should be submitted by March 1. For more information about College Goal Sunday, including dates and locations, visit the website
Students and parents can sign up for College Goal Sunday events on Sunday, Feb. 12, to get help applyling for financial assistance through FAFSA.
