Members of the Oakland University community opened their hearts and their wallets over the holiday season, making generous gifts to the 2010 All-University Fund Drive (AUFD).
A total of 580 faculty, staff and retirees contributed $256,635, surpassing the campaign’s goal of $226,000. With OU President Dr. Gary Russi’s match included, the amount rose to $368,025.
This year’s campaign was highlighted by its cost-saving, eco-friendly measures, according to Starr Cornell, director of alumni engagement and annual giving.
“We made a concerted effort to be greener this year, utilizing less paper and cutting back on postage and printing,” Cornell explained. “Many individuals made their contribution online, and considering the increase in participation, we’re pleased with the results.”
The campaign also offered a personal touch, where donors have the option to designate their gifts to recognize colleagues they have found inspirational.
“Several people chose to make their gifts in honor of colleagues who’ve made a difference during their time working for OU,” shared AUFD chair Robby Stewart. “It is gratifying to know that your professionalism and work is appreciated, and doubly gratifying to know that you’ve inspired a donation in support of our students.”
The AUFD provides support to the university, United Way of Southeastern Michigan and Black United Fund of Michigan.
All who participated are invited to attend the AUFD celebration from 3:30-5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27 in the Oakland Center Gold Rooms.
