SON seeks nominations for annual Nightingale Awards

The Oakland University School of Nursing invites individuals who share the conviction that nurses are the heart of healthcare to nominate deserving nurses for special recognition during the 23rd Annual Nightingale Awards in Nursing.

Exemplary nurses will be honored for distinguished service in the areas of administration, advanced nurse practice, education and research, long term care and rehabilitation, nursing in the community, OU distinguished alumni, staff nurse and the People's Choice Award. Winners will receive a solid bronze statue of Florence Nightingale, a $1,000 check and Nightingale pin. Runners-up will receive a plaque and pin. All nominated nurses will receive a certificate of honor.

Nomination forms are available at oakland.edu/nightingale. Completed forms should be mailed to the Oakland University School of Nursing, Nightingale Nominations, Attention: Amy Johnson, 428 O'Dowd Hall, Rochester, MI, 48309, or e-mailed to johnson2@oakland.edu.

All nominations will be reviewed and rated by a committee of nurses from various hospital affiliations and members of the School of Nursing Board of Visitors. Nominations will be accepted through Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, and winners and runners-up will be determined in March.

The award ceremony will be presented by the Detroit Medical Center on Thursday, May 5, at the San Marino Club in Troy.
