OU Campus - Safety Alert

On January 10, 2011, at approximately 8 p.m., a student, while walking alone on the Bear Lake Bridge, was approached by two male subjects who attempted to steal his lap top computer by forcibly knocking it out of his hands.

The student was able to pick up the  computer and run to the southern doorway of Vandenberg Hall. The male subjects gave chase and again approached the student. At this point,  other students approached the area and the male subjects fled the scene on foot. The student was not injured.

Description: Two African American males, both aged 18-19, both with thin builds, one wearing dark clothing and one wearing a brown  "hoodie" sweatshirt.

Anyone with information about this incident, or anyone observing any suspicious or unusual activity is encouraged to immediately call the Oakland University Police Department at 248-370-3331 (or 911 on campus telephones).

Members of the campus community are reminded to continue to use all safety precautions, including being alert to their surroundings, walking in groups and securely locking all doors and windows.
