The Oakland University community will usher in an exciting new semester with another edition of the fun-filled extravaganza popularly known as Welcome Week.

Festivities begin on Tuesday, Jan. 4, when the Center for Student Activities kicks off the new “I <3 OU” campaign, from noon-1 p.m. in the Oakland Center Fireside Lounge. Additionally, the Oakland Center Administration and Reservations will be offering free gaming through Friday, Jan. 7, from noon-1 p.m. in Bumpers Game Room, which is located on the lower level of the Oakland Center.

The action continues on Wednesday, Jan. 5, with “Set Your Intention 2011.” Co-hosted by the Graham Health Center and Campus Recreation, this event is aimed at helping students set their goals for the year ahead and will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Oakland Center Fireside Lounge.

A special open house featuring the Center for Student Activities, Oakland University Student Congress, the Student Program Board, the Oakland Post student newspaper and the campus radio station 88.3 WXOU will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 6, in the lower level of the Oakland Center in rooms 49, 61, 62, 64 and 69.

A number of fun-filled performances will take place during the week, including “Friday Night Live,” with comedian David Landau. Presented by Residence Halls Programming, the event will start at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 7, in Vandenberg Dining Center, located in Vandenberg Hall. Later that day, Student Video Productions will host a screening of “Inception” starting at 8 p.m. in the Oakland Center Fireside Lounge.

The week will round out with a “Late Night Skate Night” co-sponsored by the Student Program Board and Center for Student Activities. The event will take place from 7-11 p.m. on a special indoor skating rink in the Oakland Center Banquet Rooms. All are invited to attend this 80’s-themed evening of music, prizes, food and fun. Participants may bring their own skates or use those provided.

All Welcome Week events are free and open to all OU students. For more information on specific events and activities, view the program flyer.
