OU's Festival of Writers celebrates student work on Nov. 29
By Melissa Sochaki, student writer
Oakland University’s annual showcase of student writers will be held in the Oakland Center Banquet Rooms from 3-6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 29. The work of many OU students will be on hand, shining light to the many talented writers at the university.
The Department of Writing and Rhetoric traditionally hosts this event once each semester. The festival will feature a diverse collection of material, including academic writing, oral and dramatic presentations and multimedia presentations, along with research and group-oriented projects.
“The Festival of Writers offers students a venue to present their written work,” said Jennifer Coon, special lecturer in the Department of Writing and Rhetoric. “The audience can expect interactive projects, audio files, videos, and classic written work along with prizes and refreshments.”
Many projects spring from a variety of forms such as essays or personal narratives that are designed to highlight the creativity and talent of Oakland student writers. This year's focus for the festival will be student created projects from the composition course, WRT 150.
Special to the Festival this year is an audio booth set up to record the public’s own literacy narratives. Anyone in attendance is welcome to record their own story of becoming a reader or a writer. The booth will be operated by Timothy Biggs, special lecturer at OU and a member of the Digital Archive of Literacy Narratives.
There will be door prizes for attendees and anyone writing for the Festival is eligible to win cash prizes that will be deposited in their student accounts.
Entries will be accepted until Friday, Nov. 19. To register, view the website.
