OU salutes veterans with a forum and reception on Nov. 11
By Eric Reikowski, media relations assistant
In recognition of military members throughout the nation, Oakland University will be hosting a special Veteran’s Day forum from 11 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Nov. 11, in the Oakland Center Lake Superior Rooms.
“Recognizing Veterans Day is important because it reminds people of the sacrifices that have been made for them and informs people of what experiences and skills veterans bring to the community, the classroom and the work place,” said Michael Brennan, Oakland’s veteran liaison.
The event will include a panel discussion with an OU student veteran and two OU professors who are veterans. Each participant will share their unique personal experiences and perspectives on the role of veterans in the community and in higher education. A reception will be held immediately following the panel discussion until 12:30 p.m.
All are welcome to come share this opportunity to honor veterans and discover the wealth of contributions they make to enrich the local community and society at large.
“Veteran’s Day is not only about remembering past generations, it’s a great time to recognize family and friends who have served our country – those who have made it home safely, as well as those who have paid the ultimate price,” Brennan continued.
The forum is co-sponsored by the Oakland University Student Congress and Student Veterans of OU student organization.
