Author Timothy Wu to discuss politics of the internet at lecture on Oct. 21
Timothy Wu, a professor at Columbia Law School and authority on network neutrality, will give a talk beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21, in the Banquet Rooms of the Oakland Center. The title is “Politics of the Global Internet.”
Wu is co-author of “Who Controls the Internet? Illusions of a Borderless World.” His academic specialties are telecommunications policy and copyright. He is board chairman of the media reform group Free Press, and a writer for Slate Magazine.
Wu was credited with popularizing the concept of network neutrality with the publication in 2003 of his paper, “Network Neutrality, Broadband Discrimination.” In 2006, Wu was invited by the Federal Communications Commission to help draft the first network neutrality rules for the AT&T and BellSouth merger.
Following the talk, Wu will be available for book signing.
