Maurice Brown Poetry Reading to feature poet Molly Peacock
By Melissa Sochacki, student writer
Molly Peacock, award winning poet, will be on hand to share some of her poetry and sign copies of her book for the 23rd Annual Maurice Brown Poetry Reading at Oakland University.
The event will take place in the Oakland Center Banquet Rooms A and B from 4:30 - 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29.
The published poet and creative non-fiction writer’s sixth album of poetry, “The Second Blush,” contains moving poems that focus on illuminating the territory of relationships.
Gladys Cardiff, who helped organize this event, said that all involved are very excited to have Peacock on campus.
“She will give a public reading and visit one of our creative writing workshops. Students will love her work – her poetry is contemporary, full of humor, rich in imagery, and inspiring,” Cardiff continued.
Peacock is a faculty member of Spalding University’s Brief-Residency Master of Fine Arts in Writing program. She has received many awards for her work, including honors from the New York Foundation for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
This annual tribute to Professor Maurice F. Brown is sponsored by the Department of English and the College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Brown taught at Oakland from 1961 until he passed away in 1985.
The event is free for the Oakland community and general public and refreshments will be served.
