Students can learn about degrees and majors, speed-dating style
Oakland University’s Advising Resource Center (ARC) and Advising Week 2010 are joining forces to sponsor the annual OU Degrees and Majors Fair, beginning at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 22, in the Oakland Center Gold Rooms.
Students can explore majors offered by OU in speed-dating style. They will rotate among tables every three minutes to learn about a major field of study from a student currently enrolled in each major area. Upbeat music signals when it's time to change tables.
“This event is so valuable for first- and second-year students because it allows them to learn about majors from the student perspective,” said Lindsay Zeig, a career and academic adviser in the ARC and organizer of the event. “It may help them to learn about majors or careers they never knew existed.”
General information about degree requirements will be available at the fair. Lunch will also be provided.
There’s a road trip theme for the fair this year, and a slogan of “Define Your Own Career.” Students have been recruited to represent their major for the program, and can be identified by their green "Road Trip" T-shirts.
Zeig said the event has been steadily growing in popularity over the past few years. From 150-200 students are expected to attend this year.
