Student to Professional Conference showcases job hunting skills
Oakland University will be hosting an informative event designed to help students tackle the array of challenges in today’s job market. The first annual Student to Professional Conference will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17, in the Oakland Center.
Oakland’s sophomores, juniors and seniors are invited to come and learn about a variety of job-related topics, including resume-building, interviewing, salary negotiation, personal branding, social media and networking. The event will feature five hour-long breakout sessions, which will be led by esteemed business leaders and professionals from around the community.
“In order to accommodate students’ schedules, each breakout session is held once in the morning and once in the afternoon,” said Dr. Krista Malley, director of the Academic Skills Center. “This way, students can attend the event without missing classes.”
The event will be highlighted by a keynote address from Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett, an OU alumnus. A continental breakfast will be provided during the check-in period starting at 8:30 a.m. Additionally, participants will be educated and entertained with the “Go Black: What Not to Wear Fashion Show” during lunch in the Oakland Center Banquet Rooms.
The first 250 students to register and attend the conference will receive a free portfolio and other giveaways from lead sponsor Chrysler Corporation. To register for the event, visit the website.
