TDFI premier fall event offers a look at lean manufacturing, innovation ecosystem and more

The SBA's CIBRE (Center for Integrated Business Research and Education) is hosting its first Tool and Die Futures Initiative meeting of the fall Thursday and Friday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.

With a focus on lean manufacturing on Thursday and Friday,  Jeff Lucas, assistant manager, Toyota purchasing total cost assessment group, will lead a discussion how integrating lean into the company culture, fully supported from top to bottom, is needed for companies to compete in the global market with a competitive cost index. On Friday, Ken Smith, Eller Distinguished Service Professor of Economics, Eller College of Management, University of Arizona, will talk about driving growth through innovation and developing an innovation ecosystem during lunch.

Thursday's agenda, which runs 1 to 5 p.m., includes a discussion on communication and change point management and an overview of a new problem solving methodology. During Friday's agenda, which runs 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Lucas will share 14 principles of a culture returning to its roots and 14 lean tips.

Attendees both days will have a chance to participate in a problem-solving exercise with the assistance from a certified trainer  in the problem-solving technique.

There is no charge for Thursdays activities, a $25 contribution is requested to support the lunch and refreshment costs for Friday's event.

Please RSVP by Bob Quinn by Friday, Sept. 24, at bob@toolanddiefutures.org, (586) 336-1237 or (586) 557-4655.

Under the umbrella of the TDFI, CIBRE is helping small manufacturers explore innovation and shift the industry into emerging sectors. Through regular forums, such as this one, CIBRE is facilitating conversations between tool-die companies, OEM and Tier 1 suppliers.
