The Oakland University community and surrounding public are invited to stroll the wilds of Africa at the fifth annual Wild Game dinner to benefit Meadow Brook Hall.
The "Walk on the Wild Side” benefit takes place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23. The event opens with a silent auction at the historic mansion and a cocktail and hors d’ oeuvre reception, followed by a seated gourmet “wild” or “mild” meal, raffle and live auction.
The featured “wild” tastes include:
• a sweet potato and peanut soup with braised Wildebeest followed by a tomato and avocado salad with African five spice dressing,
• Guinea Hen pastilla paired with grilled West African Spanish Mackerel, accompanied by curried lentil and braised greens in a tomato reduction
• a Mango mousse tuile with a tropical fruit relish.
For those with a more domestic palette, an alternative “mild” menu is available.
The auctions will include a wide array of items including guns, hunting and fishing trips, golf packages, sports memorabilia, spa treatments, jewelry and more.
In keeping with the safari theme, guests will have the opportunity to view items that are not normally displayed from the Meadow Brook collection such as original photos from the Wilsons’ 1934 world tour, Alfred Wilson’s pith helmet, original trip itineraries, ticket stubs, tour pamphlets and more.
Attendees will also learn about the history of the safari and how the meaning has changed over the centuries.
Reservations for Walk on the Wild Side are required. Tickets are $75 per person or $140 per couple. Tables of ten can be purchased for $650. Call 248-364-6263 to make a reservation. Visa and Mastercard accepted.
