OU INC to host MLC for Lean healthcare event

The Michigan Lean Consortium (MLC) along with the Oakland University INCubator and the Oakland University Pawley Lean Institute is hosting a best practice sharing event on Tuesday, Sept. 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the OU INCubator in Rochester, Mich.

Mark Graban, the author of "Lean Hospital," will be leading this event along with other healthcare professionals. The MLC, OU INC and the Pawley Institute are sponsoring this event that will be a training day to learn more about practicing Lean in businesses and its positive impact on healthcare.

This exciting event will feature examples from various healthcare settings such as clinical, administrative, and manufacturing. Lunch will also be included. The cost for this event is $15 for non-members.

"As someone who grew up in Livonia and still has parents and friends there, I always hope for the best for Michigan. It should be a source of pride that Michigan has some of the early success stories of Lean healthcare, thanks to involvement of people from the auto industry," said Graban. "I am glad I can give back to further the spread of Lean thinking in Michigan and I'm looking forward to participating in the event."

The mission of the MLC is to offer a diverse network of knowledgeable Lean professionals who come together to share innovative practices. The organization aims to create a Lean culture in Michigan to ensure sustainable competitive advantage, which could translate into healthier businesses that offer more job opportunities leading to economic growth in the state.

The charter members of the MLC include: Amway, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, DTE Energy, Johnson & Johnson, The Lean Learning Center, Northwestern Michigan College, the Oakland University Pawley Lean Institute and the Michigan Shingo Prize through The Right Place.
