School of Medicine honored by “Health Care Weekly Review”

Before its first class has convened, the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine has become an award-winner.

“Health Care Weekly Review” presented its Award of Excellence in the Education category to the School of Medicine, with Dean Robert Folberg accepting the award on Aug. 20.

The Award of Excellence is presented annually by “Health Care Weekly Review” to members of the Michigan health care industry in recognition of their significant contributions in outstanding service, excellent business practices, commitment, ethics, leadership, compassion, caring and professionalism. Award categories this year are for Administrator, Full Service Hospital, Specialty Hospital and Education, said Publisher Mark W. Spiess.

This year marks the publication’s 25th anniversary as the independent health care news source in Michigan. Awards of Excellence will be featured in the September issue.

Earlier this year, the School of Medicine received preliminary accreditation from the Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME), the accrediting authority for medical education programs in the U.S. and Canada.

To date, more than 1,900 applications have been submitted to fill the charter class of 50 students, which will begin studies in August 2011.
