Registration is underway for the Oakland University School of Nursing (SON) Envision Conference held Friday, Sept. 24, 2010. The theme of this year’s conference is “Nursing: The Art and Science of Caring.”

RN’s, nurse executives, business owners, entrepreneurs or any person interested in the health care field, including nursing students, are invited to attend. Participants will learn from experts about the state of caring practice as well as discuss and discover how educators, researchers, clinicians and nurse leaders can design and promote a caring practice within any health care environment.

The following international experts will be featured at the conference: Dr. Jean Watson, author, internationally renowned scholar in human caring, and the founder of the Center for Human Caring in Colorado; Dr. Ruth Hansten, a widely published author of healthcare literature and founder of Hansten Healthcare, PLLC; JoEllen Koerner, Ph.D., RN, founder of NurseMetrix; Kristen Swanson, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, dean, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing; and Colleen Person, vice president, Creative Health Care Management.

Held at the Royal Park Hotel in downtown Rochester, 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., the $75 ticket price includes a continental breakfast and lunch. On-line registration may be completed on the Envision Conference webpage: oakland.edu/2010EnvisionConference. Students with a student i.d. can obtain free admission by pre-registering.

Clinical, academic, and research practitioners are invited to submit proposals for abstract posters or short presentations related to care practice. Topics may include the role of care practice in a clinical setting, caring models in service, innovative caring strategies in curriculum and student engagement, caring science and research studies, and caring theory application in nursing clinical or academic settings.

The Envision Conference is designed to share creative, forward thinking and holistic solutions for improving the quality of care by all nurses, while recognizing the challenges of delivering quality healthcare in the 21st century. The SON embraces these challenges by offering students an enriching learning environment to develop and apply high quality, innovative care practices.
