Golfers enjoy fun and friendship on the links while supporting OU students

More than 70 alumni and friends from around the state and country joined the Oakland University Alumni Association (OUAA) for another fun-filled golf outing on July 19 for the annual OUAA Golf Challenge. Golfers had a wonderful experience playing on the R & S Sharf course and a few almost had a hole in one! More than 20 companies sponsored this year’s outing either as a Par Shooter or Caddie sponsor and brought in more than $30,000 in sponsorships.

Gifts received through sponsorships and registration support student scholarships each academic year. Last year, the Alumni Association scholarship applicant pool increased by 30 percent for a total of nearly 300 applications received. The OUAA awarded more than $85,000 to 39 students. Scholarships can help alleviate the cost of housing, books or even assist with getting involved with student organizations.

Sincere thanks go to Tom Mittelbrun, CAS ’88, who for the past six years as chair of the event, has brought many new and returning sponsors to support the Alumni Association. Par Shooter sponsors this year included: BNY Mellon, Brandywine Global Investment Management, Columbia Management, Goldman Sachs Asset Management, HAP, Irvin Automotive Products, John Hancock Life Brokerage, Lyster Watson & Company, Mesirow Financial/Ullico Inc, Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, IBEW Local # 58/National Electrical Contractors, NorthPointe Capital, LLC, PNC Bank, Reinhart Partners, Inc., Seizert Capital Partners, LLC and Wells Fargo Institutional Retirement and Trust. Our Caddy sponsors included: Baird & Company, Edgewood Management, Entrust Capital, McClain, Smith & Wenz, P.C., Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd, The Timberland Group and Tradewinds Global Investors.
