OUWB hosts Michigan Medical School Consortium on Diversity and Admissions

The Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine hosted the Michigan Medical Schools Consortium on Diversity and Admissions on Wednesday, March 24, 2010.  The meeting was the second convening of representatives from all the medical schools in Michigan to discuss how we can work together to open access to medical education for students who are underrepresented as physicians both in the state and nation.   The first meeting was held in December at Wayne State University School of Medicine.

Dr. Henry M. Sondheimer, Senior Director for Student Affairs and Student Programs at the
Association of American Medical Colleges(AAMC) was the featured speaker.  Dr. Sondheimer presented an overview of the AAMC’s Holistic Review process.  The purpose of this project is to develop tools and resources to create and sustain medical student diversity.

The consortium will meet again at the University of Michigan Medical School this summer to further plan collaborative efforts to enhance diversity in medical education.  Students interested in learning more about the profession are encouraged to visit the web site AspiringDocs.org.
