College bound art students invited to Summer Art Intensive Camp
Oakland University will be hosting a Summer Art Intensive camp from Monday, July 26 through Friday, August 6. The camp is open to high school students in grades 9-12 and is intended for individuals who are considering pursuing an art degree in college.
Camp participants get the chance to take classes in a wide range of disciplines, including anatomical drawing, painting, graphic design, Photoshop and animation/storyboarding.
Additionally, the camp offers students a valuable opportunity to learn about the college application process.
“We hold portfolio workshops, give career and college advising, help students learn to write artist's statements and discuss AP art and Scholastics competitions,” said Linda Tyson, coordinator of art education and special instructor in Oakland’s Department of Teacher Development and Educational Studies.
The camp courses are taught by faculty members from Oakland University and the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. All are professionals in their respective fields, Tyson said.
“The program is called ‘intensive’ because it is taught like a university course and less like a ‘fun’ summer camp,” she explained. The participants typically are students who are interested in getting a college type experience and creating a couple quality portfolio pieces.”
The camp will accept up to 40 students. The cost is $675, with most materials included. For more information or to register, contact Tyson at (248) 370-3197 or tyson@oakland.edu.
