OU to host Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition June 4-7

Some of the latest innovations in science and technology will be on display when Oakland University hosts the 18th annual Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition Friday, June 4 through Monday, June 7, in Rochester on the corner of Walton and Adams roads.

The competition will feature more than 50 university robotics teams from across the nation and overseas who will show off intelligent ground vehicles before a judging panel of business and technology leaders.

Teams will be evaluated in several categories, including an autonomous challenge in which their unmanned vehicles complete an obstacle course and a navigation challenge where the vehicles travel to various locations using computer vision, lidar/radar and Global Positioning Satellite technology. Teams also will deliver presentations on the design and creation of their vehicles.

More than $40,000 in prize money is up for grabs, with Grand Awards handed out to the competition’s top three finishers. In addition, a Rookie of the Year Award will be given to the top-scoring newcomer.

Sponsors of the event include the U.S. Department of Defense, SAIC, QineticQ, National Defense Industrial Association, Lockheed Martin, Tardec, Joint Center for Robotics and Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit igvc.org or contact Dr. Ka Cheok at cheok@oakland.edu.
