SHRM organization recognized

SBA's chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) received the 2009-10 Student Chapter Superior Merit Award recognizing outstanding achievements in chapter operations and a commitment to providing meaningful programs and services to members.

"The SBA's student chapter has earned the Merit or Superior Merit award every year since 1992-93, in addition were recognized as a top 10 chapter in the country two years ago," says Liz Barclay, professor, management, and SHRM faculty co-adviser. Karen Markel, associate professor, management, is also a co-adviser.

The chapter provides information on career paths in the field of human resource management. SHRM brings in guest speakers, organizes tours of local businesses and offers educational seminars.

SHRM is the world's largest association devoted to human resource management. The society represents more than 170,000 individual members and its mission is to serve the needs of human resource professionals by providing the most essential and comprehensive resources available.
