Edward Sosnowski named new chair of Pawley Institute's Advisory Board
Edward Sosnowski, corporate Lean manager of Uni-Solar, has been chosen as the new chair of the Advisory Board for the Oakland University Pawley Lean Institute. The Advisory Board offers guidance to faculty and helps expand the visibility of the Pawley Institute.
"Ed is a creative and thoughtful Lean champion," said former chair Jamie Flinchbaugh. "I believe his creativity and energy can bring many new ideas to the institute." Full Story...

New collaboration between Pawley Institute and nursing for grad class
The Oakland University Pawley Lean Institute's graduate course, Lean Principles and Application, is now collaborating with the OU School of Nursing. This hands-on, multidisciplinary course is taught by three professors from the areas of human resource development (HRD), industrial and systems engineering (ISE), and nursing. Full Story...

Pawley Institute offers free and interactive webinars with great success
The Oakland University Pawley Lean Institute has started its Lean Thinking Webinar Series, a series of webinars introducing Lean principles, practices and application. The first webinar entitled "Introduction to Lean Thinking" is free and offered on the Pawley Institute Web site. All of the participants agreed that the webinar covered clear and useful information, and they would recommend it to other staff within their organization. Full Story...
New Honors College Lean class offered for the fall semester
The Oakland University Pawley Lean Institute is offering a special Honors College class, HC 207: Lean Thinking, for the fall 2010 semester with Mark Doman, special instructor for Human Resource Development. Taking place Tuesday nights from 6:30-9:50 p.m., this course satisfies the general education requirement for formal reasoning and is offered elusively to Honors College students. Full

Debra Setman guest lectures at HRD 304
Debra
Setman, executive director of Strategy Development and Business
Improvement at Johnson & Johnson, recently guest lectured at HRD 304: Lean
Principles and Practices in Organizations at Oakland University.
Adviser for the Pawley Learning Institute at Oakland University and
chair of the newly formed Michigan Lean Consortium, Setman has been
teaching for ten years and said that she loves the educational

Lean Thinking for Schools |
Dr. Shannon Flumerfelt presents Lean at
leadership conference in Texas
Shannon Flumerfelt, director of Lean Thinking for Schools at the Pawley
Learning Institute at Oakland University, recently presented at the
Leadership Fusion Summit 2010 in Houston, Texas. This two-day regional conference is for school administrators and
leaders in the Houston area school districts.
"For most of the audience, it was their first exposure to Lean Thinking
for Schools," Flumerfelt said. "To me, it represents some forward
thinking on their part to bring in the Pawley Institute."
Flumerfelt
described the basic concepts of Lean and conducted two learning
activities to help school leaders see waste during her hour and a half

Reeths-Puffer
School District administrators receive Lean certificate
The Reeths-Puffer School District in Muskegon, Mich., had ten more administrators graduate the Lean Professional Certificate Program, offered by the Oakland University Pawley Lean Institute. Ten school administrators graduated from the program last year. Full Story...

The Pawley Lean Institute offers graduate and undergraduate courses in Lean thinking. Registration is going on now for the following courses:
Graduate Class
Lean Principles and
Application
Gain real-life experience by developing a project of
your choice in a multitude of industries, including non-profit,
for-profit, health care and manufacturing in settings ranging from small
business to plant manufacturing.
Undergraduate Class
Lean Principles and Practices in Organizations
This activity-based introduction to the principles and practices in human resource development explores innovative way to solve persistent problems confronting organizations today. The course includes hands-on simulations, expert guest speakers and on-site tours.
Honors College Class
HC 207: Lean Thinking
Offered
exclusively to Honors College students, this course teaches Lean
theory, rules, principles, concepts and tools as well as key supporting
HRD policies and practices. Students will also take part in a kaizen
team Lean workout of a dysfunctional process.

Lean Thinking for Schools Training
The Lean Thinking for Schools Administrator Seminar provides an overview to Lean principles and applications to education.
Participants engage in Lean process improvement concepts based on district/institutional goals in order to create greater value and eliminate waste within the organizational operation.
