OUCARES hosts symposium on autism interventions, supports
Oakland University’s Center for Autism Research, Education and Support (OUCARES) is presenting “Autism Symposium: Quality of Life” on Sunday, May 16, and Monday, May 17, at the Detroit Marriott Pontiac at Centerpoint.
The symposium is for people living with autism spectrum disorder, parents/family members, educators, practitioners, researchers, students and policy makers.
The symposium begins at 4:30 p.m. on May 16, with registration. Featured speaker for the evening is Dr. Luke Tsai, a visiting professor in OU’s School of Education and Human Services, who will discuss “Evidence-based Medical Interventions and Supports for Persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder.” A question-and-answer session follows.
Beginning at 9 a.m. on May 17, Gary Mesibov, Ph.D., professor of psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will talk about “Birth to Early Childhood Educational Interventions.” He will be followed by Richard Simpson, Ph.D., professor of special education at the University of Kansas, who will present “Birth to Early Childhood Behavioral Interventions.”
That afternoon, Dr. Mesibov will discuss “Adolescents to Adult Educational Interventions,” followed by Dr. Simpson’s talk on “Adolescents to Adult Behavioral Interventions.” A panel question-and-answer period and closing remarks will conclude the symposium.
