Oakland University Brass Band wins top honors in North American Brass Band championships

Oakland University Brass Band
On Saturday, April 17, the Oakland University Brass Band took home top honors in the 3rd Section category at the North American Brass Band Championships in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Organized in the fall of 2009, the Oakland University Brass Band was one of only two collegiate groups that competed in this year's championship event, which draws primarily adult bands from across North America. Although bands from the state of Michigan have competed in previous years, Oakland University's band now has the distinction of being the only band from the state to have won any competition at North American Brass Band Championships. In addition, a number of students also participated in the solo and ensemble competitions on Friday: Monica Yousif and Bailey Rose in solo competitions and Andy Eden, Steve Lieb and Ryan Shafer in the ensemble competition.

The Oakland University Brass Band is under the direction of Dr. Kenneth Kroesche.
