Competition brings together students from leading MBA and MIS programs

The Center for Integrated Business Research and Education at OU's SBA, CA, Inc, Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona, and Kelley School of Business at Indiana University announced finalists for the second annual International Case Competition on the Strategic Value of IT Management. The competition will be held May 16-18, at CA’s user conference, CA World 2010, in Las Vegas. Finalists include teams from:

The International Case Competition on the Strategic Value of IT Management brings together students from business and information technology disciplines to demonstrate and evaluate the strategic value of IT management for an organization. Each team is comprised of three graduate students with at least one student pursuing a degree in information technology (IT) or information systems (IS).

“It is critical to the technology industry that we engage students early on and give them the experience of confronting real-world problems that are similar to what they may face after graduation,” says Connie Smallwood, senior director of Innovation and University Programs at CA. “This competition will also enable students to showcase and enhance their teamwork, quick thinking, business and communication skills—skills that are a must-have in today’s business environment.”

Prior to arriving at CA World, the student teams will be provided with a case study of a company that is in the throes of change, and evaluate its IT department and infrastructure. At the competition, each team will present their recommendations on how the company can adapt and align technology to better support the changing business environment.

“This experience is certain to leave a lasting impression on the students,” says. Mohan Tanniru, dean, OU's SBA. “The competition will present significant lessons that will be beneficial to the professional growth of the students and their ability to link IT and its strategic value to business.”

The winning teams will be announced at a dinner reception and award ceremony on Tuesday, May 18. Cash prizes will be awarded to the teams that place in the top three positions. The first place team will receive $10,000, the second place team will receive $5,000 and the third place team will receive $2,500.
