Men's and women's swim teams earn 11th straight league title

For the 11th year in a row, Oakland University's  men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams brought home the Summit League Championship title. Sophomore Anders Jensen and senior Agnes Solan were named Swimmers of the Meet as they led their teams to victory.

On the men’s side, Oakland scored 894.50 points to win its 11th straight Summit title and 32nd straight overall conference title, while the Oakland women tallied 990 points to win their 11th straight Summit title and 19th overall conference title in 20 attempts.

“We’re just floating on a cloud right now,” said coach Hovland. “We’re really tired right now but pleased. Our entire coaching staff has done a great job all season. Larry Albright has done a fantastic job with our divers and really got them to perform to the best of their abilities. With the men’s basketball team winning the league title, it’s a great night to be a Golden Grizzly.”

Jensen won the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events and the 200 butterfly, all for the second year in a row. His times in both back events hit the NCAA “B” Standard. Jensen also swam on the championship 200 and 400 medley and 800 freestyle relays.

Solan won the 100 and 200 back events and the 200 individual medley. She hit the NCAA “B” Cut in the 100 back and 200 IM and broke the meet and school record in the 100 back. Solan also set a new meet record on the championship 400 medley relay and 200 medley relay, as well as the 400 and 800 free relays.
