A major public intellectual, economist and professor at the University of California at Berkley, J. Bradford DeLong will deliver the School of Business Administration Alice Conner Gorlin Memorial Lecture at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 10, in the Oakland Center, Banquet Room B. The topic of the lecture is "The Great Panic in Historical Perspective."
DeLong is an internationally renowned scholar and expert on international economics and finance, He currently serves as chairman of the Political Economy of Industrial Societies major at Berkeley and is a research associate of the prestigious National Bureau of Economic Research. DeLong also served in the U.S. government as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy from 1993 to 1995. He worked on the Clinton Administration's 1993 budget, on the Uruguay Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, on the North American Free Trade Agreement, on macroeconomic policy, and on the first health care reform effort. He was educated at Harvard University, where he received his PhD.
His scholarly work extends from business cycle dynamics through economic growth, behavioral finance, political economy, economic history, international finance to the history of economic thought and other topics. His blog is one of the premier economic issues blogs in existence, covering political, technical and economic issues as well as criticism of their coverage in the media.
Before joining the Treasury Department, DeLong was the Danziger Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Harvard University. He has also been a John M. Olin Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research, an Assistant Professor of Economics at Boston University, and a Lecturer in the Department of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The Alice Conner Gorlin Memorial Lecture was established in honor of former Professor of Economics Alice Conner Gorlin, who taught at OU’s School of Business Administration from 1972 until her death in 1987. She gained international recognition as a scholar of the Soviet economy. Gorlin’s dedication to the role of human beings as citizens of the world led her family and friends to establish this lecture series to promote understanding of international issues and events.
