Beaumont Doctor to Lead USOC Medical Team at Upcoming Winter Games in Canada

Back in 1980, James Moeller, M.D., a teen and self-professed "Olympics junkie," watched one of his favorite athletes, speed skater Eric Heiden win an amazing five gold medals in Lake Placid.

Thirty years later, Dr. Moeller of Troy hasn't lost his enthusiasm for the Olympics. He'll join medical team member Dr. Heiden, now an orthopedic surgeon, in providing care for U.S. athletes at the upcoming XXI Olympic Winter Games. In fact, Dr. Moeller will serve as the United States Olympic Committee's chief medical officer during the games which begin in Vancouver, Canada on Feb. 12 and conclude on Feb 28.

"We'll have a good laugh at the fact we're colleagues now and looking forward to treating the athletes together in Vancouver," says Dr. Moeller, a Beaumont Hospital sports medicine specialist.
