OU offers workshop on starting a private practice in counseling
Rochester, Mich. – Oakland University’s School of Education and Human Services (SEHS) will offer “Starting a Private Practice in Counseling,” a workshop for licensed professional counselors and graduate counseling students, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29. Online registration is open through Wednesday, Jan. 27.
Key topics include requirements for starting a private practice in Michigan, clientele development, marketing strategies, liability and documents needed to build and maintain a practice.
Kim Spampinato, MA, LPC, NCC, founder of Generations Counseling Center, will lead the workshop. With several years of experience in private practice and training, she has presented nationally on a variety of topics from business communication to career counseling. Clients include the U.S. Department of Transportation, MCI, ABC Warehouse, Weight Watchers, AAA and Verizon Wireless. She served as clinical counselor and autism program developer at OU.
Laurie Orlando, JD, MA, LLPC, NCC, an attorney with 20-plus years of experience, and a licensed counselor in private practice, will address small business start up, operations and risk.
