Abstracts By Three OU Chemists Are Published

The American Chemical Society is the world's largest scientific society. Each year the ACS holds scientific meetings where new chemical advances are presented, and abstracts of these presentations are published. Recently, the abstracts of the 236th ACS National Meeting, held August 17-21 2008 in Philadelphia, were published, including several by CBR members from the Department of Chemistry. Associate Professor Ferman Chavez, an expert in developing synthetic models for active sites of metalloenzymes, reported on "Biomimetic Oxidations by Copper and Manganese Catalysts" and "New Binuclear Ni(II), Mn(II), and Fe(II) Complexes Supported by 1,4,7-Triazacycloundecane."  Associate Professor Xiangqun Zeng, who develops chemical sensors for biomarkers, presented "Poly(vinyl ferrocene) redox behavior in ionic liquids." Also Assistant Professor Nessan Kerrigan, who is interested in developing new organocatalytic methods that can be applied to the synthesis of biological molecules, published "Phosphine-catalyzed dimerization of ketenes."
