Applications now accepted for Summer Undergraduate Program in Eye Research

The Summer Undergraduate Program in Eye Research (S.U.P.E.R.) provides a unique opportunity for Oakland University undergraduates to participate in research under the mentorship of Eye Research Institute (ERI) faculty.

The program is ideal for, but not limited to, sophomores or juniors who are contemplating careers in bioscience research or teaching. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a degree seeking program, have at least a 3.0 GPA in their science courses, and have the ability to participate in at least 30 hours of lab-based research per week, from May 10 through July 30. Scholars will attend a weekly Vision Science seminar given by faculty of the ERI and William Beaumont Hospital clinicians, and they will receive training in oral presentation of research.

Students must submit a completed application form, brief resume, copy of a current transcript, one letter of reference from an academic, employment, supervisor source and a one-page double-spaced essay describing the applicant’s career goals and interest in science.

The application and supporting information are due by March 5. Applicants with missing information will not be considered. Interviews with selected applicants are scheduled for March 11-13. Forms and information are available online  under “Student Research” or from Paulette Realy, 416 Dodge Hall. For more information, e-mail Realy at pmrealy@oakland.edu or Kenneth Mitton at mitton@oakland.edu.
