Crittenton partners with OU for Lean internships
Industrial and systems engineering majors at Oakland University are now using student internships at Crittenton Hospital Medical Center in Rochester to complete their senior design projects. OU was the first college to partner with Crittenton when they started the internship program in the summer of 2006.Bob Van Til and Sankar Sengupta, industrial and systems engineering professors and working team members of the Oakland University Pawley Lean Institute, worked with Crittenton personnel to develop the internship program. Pawley Institute and AASP present their first webinar
The Association of Advancement Services Professionals (AASP) and the Oakland University Pawley Lean Institute presented a "Lean Thinking" webinar with speakers Dr. Shannon Flumerfelt, assistant professor at OU and director of Lean Thinking for Schools at the Pawley Institute, and Robert Saunders, director of Development Information Services at OU and treasurer of AASP. Moderated by Beverly Brown, graduate assistant at the Pawley Institute, this was the first webinar for both AASP and the Pawley Lean Institute. Full Story...
From HRD 304 to Lean intern
Michelle Mich, an office assistant in Educational Leadership at Oakland University, took HRD 304: Lean Principles and Practices in Organizations during the summer and then transitioned into a Lean internship for the fall semester. Mich is working with Mark Doman for her internship, who was her professor for HRD 304. "My favorite thing about the position is really being guided by Professor Doman," Mich said. Lean Thinking for Schools
Reeths-Puffer School District experiences second round of Lean training
The Reeths-Puffer School District in Muskegon, Mich. sent ten administrators through the Lean Thinking for Schools Training last year and has sent ten more this year to complete the Lean Professional Certificate program through the Oakland University Pawley Lean Institute.

Taught by Dr. Shannon Flumerfelt, director of Lean Thinking for Schools at the Pawley Lean Institute, the program is about understanding the basic concepts of being a Lean champion, and then developing and implementing projects into the school district. Full Story...
It is prime time for Lean in schools
It is prime time for applying Lean in schools! Why? Because funding concerns for districts have created considerable stress through consecutive years of budget reductions. The intensity and pace of reductions are unprecedented in the history of educational funding, and many districts feel ill-equipped to handle such dramatic patterns of diminishing resources.

Schools are in a terrible dilemma, wondering where to allocate scarce funds most effectively and efficiently. But they have found success by engaging in budgeting issues through the full "Lean package" by putting Lean in prime time. Full Story...

This activity-based introduction to the principles and practices in human resource development explores innovative way to solve persistent problems confronting organizations today. The course includes hands-on simulations, expert guest speakers and on-site tours.

Lean Thinking for Schools Training 

The Lean Thinking for Schools Administrator  Seminar provides an overview to Lean principles and applications to education.

Participants engage in Lean process improvement concepts based on district/institutional goals in order to create greater value and eliminate waste within the organizational operation.
