Professor John Reddan, of the Department of Biological Sciences, has been doing cutting-edge research at Oakland University for over four decades. He was supported by the National Institutes of Health for over a quarter century to study the lens of the eye and cataract formation, and has published hundreds of peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals. This month you can add one more paper to his total. In the November 2009 issue of Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, Reddan and colleagues from England published TGF beta/Smad4-Dependent and –Independent Regulation of Human Lens Epithelial Cells (Volume 50, Pages 5318-5327). Reddan’s work has appeared in this journal over 50 times since 1980.

The Department of Biological Sciences at Oakland University has been growing vigorously over the last few years, with an increasing number of undergraduate biology majors and many new, young faculty members setting up labs.
