Open house focuses on programs that quickly prepare workers for new careers

Oakland University’s School of Business Administration will host an open house to highlight professional education certificate programs that help workers remain competitive in today’s job market or prepare for new careers in the 21st century workforce.

The open house will take place from 6:30-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2, in 234 Elliott Hall.

Future students and business partners are invited to learn more about programs including Business Intelligence and Data Mining, Process Management, CFP Board Registered Certified Financial Planning, ABA-Approved Paralegal Certificate, Project Management Certificate, Microsoft Office Computer Based Office Skills, Web 2.0 and more.

Representatives from each program will be available to answer questions and provide information, including on how these programs may be eligible for Michigan Works! No Worker Left Behind (NWLB) funding.

“At a time of decreasing job security and an increasingly competitive job market, updating skills and knowledge is something people can do to take action – kind of an insurance policy for their future either in their current industry or when looking changing careers,” said Lori Crose, director of operations for CIBRE’s professional education department. “Many of our alumni and others are looking to universities and community colleges to help them educate, re-educate and retool for the new economy. Our mission is to serve the community.”

In fact, SBA alumni interested in the SBA's professional development certificate program offerings  can take advantage of a special 40th Anniversary discount – 10 percent off the first class only of any certificate program offering. The discount is available through October 2010.

For more information about the open house, the certificate programs or to register for upcoming programs, visit the SBA’s Professional and Community Education Web site at www.sba.oakland.edu/ce/ or call (248) 370-3177.
