SEHS to offer workplace violence seminar for HR professionals

Oakland University’s School of Education and Human Services is pleased to offer “Workplace Violence, Identifying and Minimizing Organizational Risks,” a two-day seminar for human resource professionals. The workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Fridays, Nov. 6 and 13.

Key topics will include the types and levels of threats, recognizing warning signs, causes for violent behavior and intervention techniques. Impact of organizational policies and procedures during hiring and terminating also will be addressed. Participants will develop threat management and safety plans.

Judy Jacobs, Ph.D., RN, and president of Professional Health Care Systems, a national consulting and training firm with expertise in WPV risk and threat management, will lead the course. Jacobs has conducted seminars nationally and is co-author of “The Workplace Violence in Healthcare Tool Kit: A Guide to Establishing Prevention and Training Program.” She has served on the boards of the National Victim Advocacy Center in Fort Worth, Texas, and the National Organization for Victim Assistance in Washington, D.C.
