This year’s Advising Week at Oakland University will run from Monday, Sept. 21 through Friday, Sept. 25, featuring a series of events to help students explore majors and careers in addition to preparing for winter registration, which starts Monday, Oct. 19.
“Advising week is an excellent opportunity for students to meet with their academic advisers and receive information about scheduling an advising appointment to discuss class options for the winter semester,” said Lindsay Oliver, Advising Week chair. “Additionally, these events provide a fun environment with free food, prizes, entertainment and a chance to win a trip to New York City.”
Festivities begin with an official Advising Week Kick-off event from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21 outside the Oakland Center between North and South Foundation Halls. This spirited event will include a DJ and free popcorn.
An Advising Fair is planned for noon - 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22 in the Oakland Center Fireside Lounge and the main hallway of the Oakland Center. Advising staff will be available to answer questions and provide information to students. In addition, the Registrar’s Office will be hosting a table to promote full-year registration and students will have an opportunity to enter a drawing to win priority registration for the winter semester. Students can also have their picture taken Hollywood style, play movie trivia and enter to win the grand prize trip to New York City.
This year’s Fall Career Fair will be held from noon - 3 pm on Wednesday, Sept. 23 in the Oakland Center Banquet Rooms where students will be able to meet with and submit resumes to representatives from a wide array of prospective employers.
In addition, the OU Degrees and Majors Fair is scheduled from noon - 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24 in the Oakland Center Banquet Rooms. This event is designed to give students a chance to explore various majors and academic programs through one-on-one interaction with Oakland students who are currently enrolled in each area of study. Free pizza will be provided along with yet another opportunity to enter to win the grand prize trip to New York City.
Festivities will wrap up with Adviser Appreciation Day on Friday, Sept. 25. Students will be invited to submit their nominations for the Adviser of the Year Award at the Web site.
