Oakland University has canceled classes for Wednesday, Sept. 9, as it has become clear that a contract settlement with representatives of the Oakland University chapter of the American Association of University Professors will not be reached prior to the time classes would otherwise begin.
University administrators are hopeful that intervention by the Oakland County Circuit Court will help lead to a resolution and that students can return to classes soon. A hearing before Oakland Circuit Judge Edward Sosnick has been set for 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, university administrators are exploring options to ensure that a full course of instruction can be delivered during the fall semester and that the quality of coursework is not compromised. Students will be informed of any such decisions as quickly as possible. The university also will quickly communicate any important developments in contract negotiations.
