CAS Finish Line Scholarship

As the economic crisis continues to tighten people’s pocketbooks, universities are finding more and more students are unable to finish their degrees. To help these students, the College of Arts and Sciences established the CAS Finish Line Scholarship. This scholarship is used to financially assist students of the college who have completed more than half of their required credits toward a bachelor’s degree, who do not qualify for other grants and scholarships, and who are unable to continue with classes because of serious financial constraints.

The CAS Finish Line Scholarship was able to provide its first ever scholarship award to Caitlin Byrne for the upcoming academic year. Caitlin, who will graduate in spring 2010, is working to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Performance. In a personal statement submitted to the review committee, Caitlin said, “I want to finish my degree and become the first person from my family to graduate from a university. I want to be able to provide for myself and fulfill the potential that Oakland University saw when I auditioned four years ago. I am so close to completing these goals, and I truly need the assistance of this scholarship in order to do so.”

Scholarships such as the CAS Finish Line Scholarship provide the university with the opportunity to reward students for academic excellence and help them pursue their goals and dreams for the future. By providing scholarships, the university is helping to relieve the pressure of outside employment and large loans, which allows students to concentrate on their academic work and future career.

The CAS Finish Line Scholarship is supported by generous gifts from OU faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the college. To help support this and other College of Arts and Sciences programs, please visit our Make a Gift Web page.
