Oakland University's Center for Autism Research, Education and Support (OUCARES) and Joey Travolta's Short Film Camp are teaming up again to host the fourth annual Film Camp August 17 – 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Pawley Hall on the campus of Oakland University.
The camp is for individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder and a sibling or peer buddy between the ages of 10-18. Volunteers are needed to assist participants and are welcome to volunteer for a day or the entire two-week camp.
Led by well-known actor, director and entertainer Joey Travolta (brother of John Travolta), participants will learn to write, act, direct and edit their own film. The film camp is unique in that it provides enhanced opportunities in the arts for children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder in an inclusive setting.
On Saturday, October 17, OUCARES will host a Red Carpet Film Premiere night in the Oakland Center. The event is open to the public and will showcase the short film produced by the participants and celebrate their accomplishments.
OUCARES integrates academic course work, knowledge and research with hands-on work in the community to prepare professionals to be leaders in the autism community.
Through these academic and service programs, Oakland University also provides supportive individual and family programs. OUCARES, housed in the School of Education and Human Services, encourages the exchange of ideas relating to the education and support of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder as well as provides services and support needed to improve daily living.
For more information on the film camp, volunteer or sponsorship opportunities, please contact the OUCARES office at 248-370-2424 or email oucares@oakland.edu.
