OU seeks career changers interested in teaching the next generation of math and science pros

Rochester, Mich. – The School of Education and Human Services at Oakland University is looking for talented science, technology, engineering and mathematics professionals interested in a career change that will put their knowledge and experience to work in middle or high school classrooms.

As part of the National Science Foundation’s Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program, 10 full scholarships covering tuition and other expenses will be awarded to career changers pursuing a math and or science teaching specialization. This first cohort of Noyce Teaching Scholars will begin daytime and evening classes in June 2010.

Noyce Teaching Scholars can complete the Master of Arts in Teaching in just 12 months and begin teaching by the fall of 2011. The degree program includes coursework, a practicum, student teaching and the teacher certification process. In exchange for accepting the scholarship, graduates will commit to teach in a high-need school district for at least two years.

Those interested in learning more about this opportunity are invited to attend one of two Noyce Scholarship information sessions set for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, and Wednesday, Aug. 5.
