Calling all former Kresge Library student employees

This fall Oakland University students, faculty and alumni will discover a transformed Kresge Library through the addition of the Technology Learning Center (TLC). The TLC includes an Information Commons (IC), e-Learning and Instructional Support (e-LIS), and the University Technology Services (UTS) Help Desk to expand and strengthen OU’s offerings in technology-based learning, teaching and research.

Perhaps of greatest interest to students, the IC provides hard-wired PC and Mac workstations and state-of-the-art, flexible furniture arrangements designed to take full advantage of the wireless network. The new space accommodates different configurations of students and technology to stimulate creativity and facilitate the use of information technology. Students can also take advantage of mobile white boards, media carts for presentations and breakout rooms for group study.

e-LIS is responsible for the university’s online instructional efforts and is a major resource for faculty developing Web-based programs and courses. The UTS Help Desk assists university members with information technology issues. “Centralizing the IC, e-LIS and the Help Desk in Kresge Library creates a nexus for technology-based learning, teaching and research, as well as a wonderful space for collaboration and study using the latest digital resources,” Kresge Library Dean Julie Voelck said.

The library is planning a fall open house and reception for students, faculty, staff and alumni and extends a special request to all former student library assistants to contact the library so that they may be added to the invitation list. “We want to invite all our former students who worked at the library to attend the celebration and re-connect with one another,” said Voelck. Former students should send contact information to: hunton@oakland.edu or call (248) 364-6106.

“Information literacy, technology literacy and support for research and learning are clearly our passions at the library,” Voelck said. “We’d like to share this with our former students and re-engage with those who’d like to stay involved with the library and its future direction.”
