New Method For Computed Tomography

Computed tomography (CT) allows doctors to obtain high quality images using x-rays beams applied and detected in many different directions. Although CT was invented decades ago, new and improved methods are constantly being developed. In the June 2009 issue of Physics in Medicine and Biology, Adjunct Assistant Professor Tiezhi Zhang of the Department of Raditaion Oncology at William Beaumont Hospital and his coworkers--including Biomedical Sciences: Medical Physics graduate student Joshua Kim--published a new method for performing computed tomography: Tetrahedron Beam Computed Tomography (TBCT): A New Design of Volumetric CT System (Volume 54, Pages 3365-3378).
