Program to give appraisers, assessors competitive edge

Oakland University’s School of Business Administration is once again offering a spring program dedicated to giving valuation professionals insights on the latest trends, legislative issues and regulatory developments in the real estate industry. This continuing professional education program for appraisers and assessors addresses a wide range of current subjects. No registration fee means participants pay for only the sessions they choose.

Sessions targeted for those new to the field include Introduction to the HP-12C Financial Calculator, and Statistics in Appraisal. Courses designed for professionals looking to enhance their skills to be competitive include Mastering Unique and Complex Properties, and Dynamic Presentation Skills for the Professional Appraiser and Assessor. Courses also cover topics of interest to all valuation professionals, such as Mortgage Fraud – A Dangerous Business, and Fundamentals of Appraising for Michigan Property Tax Appeals.

Sessions start Tuesday, May 12, and end Saturday, May 23. Tuition varies depending on the session, and coffee and light snacks are provided for each session. For more information or to register for the program, visit www.sba.oakland.edu/ce/career_dev.asp and click on Appraisal CPE Weekend, e-mail to sba-ce@lists.oakland.edu, or call (248) 370-3128 or (248) 370-3177.

This program is an extension of the SBA’s respected Real Estate Appraisal Education program, which includes the core 75 hours that the State of Michigan requires for the first level of appraisal licensing and provides the fundamental principles, procedures and standards of professional practice to give the student the necessary tools to succeed in the field.

These programs and others are available through the Professional and Community Education Department of the Center for Integrated Business Research and Education (CIBRE) at OU’s SBA, which provides business professionals and displaced workers a chance to enhance current skills and retool for new careers through established programs and new ones under development.

CIBRE offers a host of valuable continuing education and professional development opportunities throughout the year, including certificate, review and online programs. CIBRE also hosts timely and informative seminars, conferences and workshops; works with businesses to customize and deliver programs for employees; and partners to develop and deliver community-based youth programs.
