Legislative Advocacy Breakfast to unveil Grassroots Grizzlies Web site
The Oakland University Alumni Association and Office of Government Relations will host the Legislative Advocacy Breakfast on Monday, May 18 from 8-9:30 a.m. in the Oakland Center Oakland Room.
The event will feature a demonstration of the Grassroots Grizzlies Advocacy Network Web site, an innovative tool offering members a convenient way to reach out to their elected officials.
“The overall vision for the advocacy Web site is to inform and educate OU supporters on the issues facing Oakland University and higher education in the state of Michigan and nation,” said Rochelle Black, vice president for Government Relations at OU.
“The Grassroots Grizzlies Advocacy Network is a tool that will connect advocates to their respective state and federal legislators and allow them to communicate the importance of Oakland University.”
Keynoting the event will be former state representative and distinguished OU alumna Fran Amos and OU professor John Klemanski. A longtime member of the political science program, Klemanski believes the new network will help OU supporters continue to raise the university’s profile.
“It will definitely make Oakland stronger,” Klemanski explained. “In politics, more voices are stronger than fewer voices. We have a lot of students and alumni who have enjoyed their experience with the university and don’t mind talking about it.”
