OU's Kangas selected for ESPN Three-Point Championship
Erik Kangas ranks fourth in the nation with 3.8 treys made per game.
Oakland University's Erik Kangas has been invited to compete in the ESPN Dunk and Three-Point Championships at The Palace of Auburn Hills at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 2. Kangas, a native of DeWitt, Mich., is fourth in the nation with 127 3-pointers made.
"I'm really excited about this opportunity," said Kangas. "It's been something that I have been working towards all year. Hopefully I can go out there and represent Oakland."
Kangas set a new single-season Summit League record in 3-pointers made this season, breaking Michael Watson's (UMKC) 119 made back in 2002-03. The senior guard ranks third all-time in league history with an OU best 340 treys made during his superb career. He garnered All-Summit League first team honors after scoring 18.7 points per game (2nd in league) and was named NABC All-District 24 first team.
Joining Kangas in the contest will be Creighton's Booker Woodfox (86), Grinnell College's (Div. III) John Grotberg (154), Northwestern's Craig Moore (105) and Rhode Island's Jimmy Baron (110).
The contest will air on ESPN on tape delay at 9:30 p.m. ET. Check back to www.ougrizzlies.com for updates on postseason basketball.
