Fresh off the release of their third studio album, the All-American Rejects will perform as part of the Belle Tire Concert Series at Oakland University’s Meadow Brook Music Festival at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 16.
After first gaining popular attention with their self-titled debut album and the hit “Swing, Swing,” the Stillwater, Oklahoma-based band built on its success with the 2005 release of “Move Along.” Like its predecessor, this album went platinum, fueled by both national and international response to the hits, "Dirty Little Secret," "Move Along," and "It Ends Tonight."
The emo-pop group is now on tour supporting, “When the World Comes Down,” which features the single “Gives You Hell.”
“We’re extremely excited to have them,” said Alan Adorjan, publicity chair for OU’s Student Program Board, which is sponsoring the event. Co-sponsors are the OU Student Congress and Student Video Productions.
Looking to build on the success of popular shows, such as an appearance by Dashboard Confessional two years ago, organizers of the spring concert hope broaden awareness of the many cultural and entertainment opportunities on campus – not only for current students, but for prospective students and community members as well.
“We want to show the students that there are other things they can do,” Adorjan said. “We’re trying to get them to stay on campus and find out more about everything that’s going on here.”
Adorjan said ticket sales are moving quickly and that organizers hope to see a sellout crowd to open the Meadow Brook Music Festival’s 2009 season.
Appearing with the All-American Rejects will be Shiny Toy Guns, Vedera and Ace Enders.
Tickets for the upcoming show are $10 for students and $20 for general admission. For more information or to order tickets, call the Student Activities Center at (248) 370-2400 or visit www.ticketmaster.com and search for “All-American Rejects.”
