Nominations are currently being accepted for three sets of Center for Student Activity awards that honor Oakland University students committed to fostering positive experiences within the campus community.
The Commuter Involvement Award recognizes commuting students who have contributed to the quality of campus life through campus activities and student organizations. Students may be nominated to receive the award or nominate themselves. Six activity-based awards of $500 each are available to individual students. Funds will be applied to recipients’ fall 2009 semester student accounts.
Up to four Sidney Fink Memorial Awards, ranging from $100 to $200 will be given to student employees dedicated to improving diversity and race relations on campus. This annual award is sponsored by Robert Fink, associate professor of counseling in the School of Education and Human Services, in memory of his father, Sidney, who worked as a business and community leader in an inner city for 40 years.
The award recognizes both graduate and undergraduate students who have actively contributed to campus programming and interpersonal communication focused on improving diversity and race relations and who have enhanced understanding, tolerance and community-building among different cultural groups.
The Volunteer Service Award recognizes individual students and student organizations that have been actively involved in community service activities both on and off Oakland University’s campus. Four awards of $500 a piece are available. An Oakland student may apply either as an individual or on behalf of a student organization.
